Rome hosted the ninth of fifteen stops in Intesa Sanpaolo’s “Imprese Vincenti” program, which celebrates the excellence of small and medium-sized Italian enterprises. Now in its fifth edition, the program aims to highlight companies that represent the best of Made in Italy, demonstrating impressive economic and social results.
During the event, ten outstanding companies from Lazio and Abruzzo were showcased, selected from the 4,000 self-nominated this year. The awarded businesses span various sectors, including industry and mechanics, energy services and architecture, tourism, and business services. These companies were recognized for their innovative projects and the positive impact they’ve had on their communities and the market.

– AB TUNNELING, founded in Pomezia (Rome), for the industrial sector
– BRUZZICHES BROTHERS from Caprarola (Viterbo) and **C.S. EMERGENZA** from Manoppello (Pescara) for the fashion and apparel sector
– CIMAS, based in Rome, and **GROUP ATP** from Rome for the mechanical sector
– COMEC INNOVATIVE from Chieti for energy services
– EUROCOMITALIA from Sezze (Latina) and LAS MOBILI from Tortoreto (Teramo) for architecture and design

– XENIA from Guardagriele (Chieti) for tourism
Criteria of selection
The “Imprese Vincenti” program stands out for its ability to highlight and support companies excelling in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, economic growth, innovation, and digital transition.
Intesa Sanpaolo, together with the initiative’s partners, provides support to facilitate the growth of SMEs in these key areas, helping to strengthen the sustainability and internationalization of the awarded businesses. Since the program began, around 14,000 companies have participated in its five editions, with 4,000 candidates for this year alone. These businesses generate a combined revenue of about €35 billion and employ approximately 150,000 people.
Business Growth
In recent years, the economies of the Lazio and Abruzzo regions have shown significant growth, with exports increasing by 40% since 2016. Lazio, in particular, has made a substantial contribution, with exports exceeding €29 billion, driven primarily by the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. Abruzzo has seen its exports grow to over €10 billion, with the automotive sector playing a major role, followed by pharmaceuticals and agri-food.
In the first half of 2024, both regions recorded export growth, with Lazio seeing a 6.7% increase compared to the same period last year, and Abruzzo growing by 2.1%. This positive trend contrasts with the national average, which saw a 1.1% decline. Manufacturing companies in both regions have also performed well in terms of investments in technology and sustainability, a positive shift from the recent past. Increased investments and business expansion are supported by financing programs and policies like the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), which is helping to revitalize infrastructure and transition towards a greener, more digital economy.

Group Atp, a Roman company founded in 2003, is an example of resilience. It specializes in the design, construction, and installation of industrial ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. “Until 2008, we operated in the real estate sector. Then, with the recession, we had to reinvent ourselves,” says Giovanni Belli, 53, an engineer and CEO.
“We left civil architecture behind and focused on industrial systems, opening up to the international market. It was a huge leap into the unknown: our horizon was once limited to the Rome ring road, and suddenly, we found ourselves working in Canada.”
Green Energy
The company has specialized in the development of cooling systems for industrial fluids and heat recovery systems used in green energy processes, such as hydrogen plants. “Some machines use free heat sources,” explains Belli, “thus preventing the release of heat into the atmosphere through waste heat recovery (integration of heat that would otherwise be released or discarded).”
Success in Canada
Group Atp’s entry into North America was facilitated by Technip Energies, a leading energy transition company based in Magliana, “a long-standing client of ours who acquired major clients in Canada.” In a difficult and somewhat skeptical market, Group Atp managed to carve out a space, aided by Europeans’ tendency to network and adopt a business model that is less rigid and aggressive compared to the North American approach.
Development Prospects in the Middle East
The Middle East is the new frontier for development, continuing to attract large investments and focusing heavily on green systems, thanks to the region’s geographical features. “We are negotiating the construction of a plant in Oman,” reveals Belli, “for gas liquefaction powered by solar panels. It would be the first of its kind in the world.” Next in line for growth prospects is Northern Europe, where “labor and supply costs are extremely high, making us competitive.” The strength of Group Atp, which operates with a flexible workforce ranging from 25 to 50 employees, lies in its ability to combine internationalization with human capital. “Despite everything, after 25 years, we’re still here, with 99% of our revenue coming from exports.”
